Enjoy a great view of Baltimore while strolling arm-in-arm with your baby.. The Background In 1788, 4,000 citizens of the new United States celebrated Maryland's ratification of the Constitution on Federal Hill. This hill was a popular spot for viewing Baltimore even before it was officially named; the vista is so impressive that an observatory was built here in 1795. For over a century, Federal Hill provided a vantage point for the city's merchants to track the approach of their ships, and Union troops fortified the imposing rise of Federal Hill during the Civil War. It was made a public park in 1880.
The Experience Share twilight with your sweetheart at this romantic overlook and watch the sky change colors above Charm City. Open until midnight, Federal Hill offers the only regularly available view of Baltimore at night; The Top of the World Observatory is rarely open in the evening.
