Overrated.
While the atmosphere was nice, with a table overlooking the marina and the South River, the service and food was not good at all. The first thing I noticed was that our waiter was wearing an apron that was covered with spots of food....not an appetizing site. If the waiter didn't notice how bad it looked, you would think someone else on the staff of the restaurant would have said something about getting a clean apron.
For an appetizer I ordered the crab soup. The soup had a nice flavor and there were good sized pieces of crab meat in the "soup". However the base was an extremely thick cream sauce as opposed to a "soup" base. It was very thick and rich. Not at all what I was expecting.
For an entree I order the Canadian salmon topped with crab imperial. The salmon was overcooked with the edges so crispy they were crunchy. It had absolutely no flavor at all. It was topped with crab meat that looked like it had been fried in butter and also was flavorless. Lying under the fish was a white cream sauce, again with no flavor. I've never before had salmon that I had to add table salt and pepper to, in order to add some taste, but that was what I did. The asparagus spears were okay. The mashed potatoes fairly tastless. Bottom line - not an entree with $24. I've had better salmon at Macaroni Grill.
My husband had the teriyaki top sirloin. He asked for it "medium well". It was medium on the outside and medium rare inside. No flavor to the meat. Husband rated it as "mediocre".
Bread was never served or offered. When I asked about it, I was told that we would have had to ask for bread.
For a restaurant that offers valet parking I would say it was very pretentious - once you went inside and were met with a waiter with dirty apparel and overpriced ill prepared food.
Disappointing Food. Although the atmosphere is great, the food at Yellowfin is subpar. Both the Halibut and the Corcoro were very overcooked and dry, and the crabcake contains substantially more breading than meat. In addition, the wait staff is unfamiliar with the menu -- I was brought the wrong dessert twice.
