Very disorganized and unprofessional staff and owner.
On Feb. 1, 2012: Called Art of Motion and left a message for the owner that I had a few concerns and may need to pull my daughter out of the class. Later that day the owner called me and was very unprofessional. She started the conversation off by introducing herself and informing me that she is aware of my concerns and that I should withdraw my daughter from the class if I was not happy. I informed the owner that it concerns me that she isn’t interested in knowing the concerns that I had. I then elaborated on my concerns, stating the following:
*Disorganized – since the move to the new building the Art of Motion staff is not organized. On Jan. 24, 2012, an employee of Art of Motion stated that my daughter’s dress was available and that he would get it for me. The employee tried servicing other parents forgetting that he suggested giving me my daughter’s dress after reminding him, he ran about , stating I need to make a call and that he would be right back. After 25 minutes (approx. 7:10pm), I decided to leave because I needed to get home to feed my 2 year old dinner.
*Seating – since the move to the new building, there has not been enough seating for parents so parents who have paid tuition end of sitting on the floor.
*Heating – since the move to the new building, there hasn’t been ample heat to warm the warehouse. So, kids (2 years old) end up having cold hands as if they were out playing in the snow without gloves. This is clearly unacceptable.
*Parent involvement – Since this is a 2 year old program of creative movement, I believe that if a child is sad or calling for their parent that the teacher should walk the child out to their parent for consoling. To improve this, I believe the owner should incorporate parent involvement since most of these kids who haven’t been away from their parents and even if they have they are way too young to not be seen.
After sharing this information with the owner she was very unprofessional and was clear that she did not plan to make any changes and agreed that I should withdraw my child from her dance class. I was very surprised with her response. It is clear to me that customer service is not a focus for this dance school because they are not focused on customer retention and satisfaction.
Do not patronize the “Art of Motion” dance school in Owings Mills, MD.
AOMDC - Comment from the staff. Hello. I am one of the owners of AOMDC. The comments posted by "jumpingforjoy" are posted by a former disgruntled employee who was dismissed for breach of contract, specifically with inappropriate outside contact with students via social media and using the facility during after hours to conduct unrelated business. This employee was warned three times before dismissal and was finally terminated, but her fiance was still under employment causing her resentment. In any case, while everyone is entitled to their opinions; the information in her posting is not just opinion based. Our studio is cleaned weekly, but we do have lots of traffic in and out each week. I hold a BA in Dance Education and a MBA and all of our teachers (ironic, excluding the one we let go who and wrote this posting) are college educated professionals who have to pass a background check. Costumes absolutely do not cost us $5.99 wholesale. We take the average cost of costumes to determine the set price so everyone can budge at the beginning of the year and set that at $70. Please come stop in and take a look around if you like, we are in the process of painting this summer an putting in new lobby floors. Price out costumes at any studio or rec center in the area and you'll see that our costume prices are not at all inflated and comparable to others as it's as simple as they cost what they cost, no way around it. It's interesting that the review that she posts for the St.Paul drycleaners is also her family business... Interesting.
Needs some work.. I wouldn't recommend going to this dance studio. Very poor staffing, professionalism, and cleanliness!!!!! VERY dirty flooring, they NEVER clean it. They also have very poor teaching styles.. current teachers/owners need more training themselves. They will try and keep/steal your money anyway possible. Costumes cost 5.99 for recital and they make everyone pay $$$$70.00.
Very Rude staff. The first time I was there just to get information, staff was not polite at all. Well I thought it was just an immature teenager doing clerical work. The next time, first fay of class for my boys, a more mature lady up front had the same or even worse demeanor. Parents are not allowed to be in studio for observation, so I was going to leave run other errands and come back. And she rudely told me that they are babysitters. I came again, and my friendly and outgoing boys hated the place to the point where one of them cried out of the room. And just like them, they kept my deposit, first and last month payment for attending 1&1/2 session.
- Did not get the off site performance and video shoot that was advertised.
- Owner is unprofessional, rude, and rarely on site.
- Advertised as "MTV" workshop and there was NOTHING MTV about it!
- Studio floor was filthy
- Props and Arc Trainer remained in studio during class sessions.
