Great. He made me a cello in 07 that I just love. Its a Montagnana pattern, it has such a rich tone and I especially love the adjustments he made to achieve a brighter sound on the top end while keeping the warmth of the lower.

I've also played his Feuermann Montagnana and the two cellos of my former teacher made by him (one was used by Yo-Yo Ma). I enjoyed each.

He also is very good about repairs and is timely and inexpensive.

He does bold new experimental work and achieves tremendous results!

Expert set up work!. James has helped me to bring 2 great old instruments back to life -- complete set ups and expert repairs. And his micro adjustment helped to greatly improve the sound on my 18th century cello. He relentless pursued and finally tamed a bad old wolf. He will work with you to locate and fix any cello problem.

Good repair work...you really should try his string basses.. He made a cello for me in 1994 and it (and I ) did very well together. I was pleased with his work. His basses are good as well.
