Tips for Sprout An Organic Salon

April 13, 2013

I agree with evaccom who wrote a review in 2011. I came in for root touch-up, after having my hair completely done in February. It was a rush job because I had to attend a funeral in two days. Apparently, they say I made an appointment for highlights and was charged for highlights -- but my roots were done! No highlights ordered!

Be careful, something is amiss with this salon. There was one bowl on the table, and it was used for my roots and to pull the color through. I was under the heat for 25 min, washed, and left at the bowl. Had to ask for a towel because I didn't have time for a dry. The comb out was another story too.

Thank goodness there are other organic salons. And, I don't think that a stylist who has adorned her body with tattoos and smokes between customers embodies the environment of a ORGANIC salon.

Don't Waste Your, I Mean Their, Precious Time. It's hit or miss with Sprout, depending on if the stylist you get deems you worthy of their time. Overall, the inflated prices are not worth the outcome nor the attitude of some inflated egos.

I got a fair but overpriced cut from Rachel last year, and great blonde highlights from Julie in May (who was pleasant and professional). When I returned to get my natural brown color back for fall, I received horrible service. The receptionist must have stopped listening when I said I had highlights because she booked me for a root touch up instead of full color.

Stylist Tammy was clearly not happy about the miscommunication. Though I offered to reschedule, she said she had another client in 15 minutes, mumbled about her lunch, and told me I should have booked a consultation. She did a rushed job, using a color much darker than my natural hair, and spent as little time with me as possible, leaving a kindly shampoo girl to finish the coloring. I don't really care if a stylist doesn't talk to me, but Tammy barely said anything to me, let alone check the final color or even touch my hair post wash.

Mid-shampoo, a male stylist asked the shampoo girl when she would be finished with me, and she had to quickly wash out the dye so she could start on his client. Thankfully she found a comb so I could brush my hair in another stylist's station. That stylist not too subtly asked to move my things from the chair. And forget being helpful, the rest acted as if I had the plague.

Disgusted, I paid and got the hell out of there. When I got home, my hair was brassy red, almost orange. I called to see what they could do to correct it, noting I'd prefer Julie (or anyone else) fix it rather than Tammy. The receptionist asserted

Cry No More. So I orginally had been going to Tenpachi and loved all my haircuts/colors, but unfortunatly my favorite lady left and had to go to a new girl. I walked out looking like fraggle, burned my scalp multiple times, blowdrying straightening and doing everything i could to tame my frizzy short bangs, and wild spiky ends. I have a lot of wavy hair with cow licks and this women cut them wrong every way, my bangs perpetually looked like "There's Something About Mary" I suffered headaches for months as hair spray and head bands held down my fraggle-do/troll doll cut.

After four months and with graduation from college around the corner i called Naomi Greene at Sprout, expressly because she was voted best in Baltimore 2008, by City Paper. WELL SHE IS THE BEST. I walked in a scared timid lamb, and walked out and awesome lion. I loved the HON feel of the salon, its abscense of salon-atude. The shampoo was GREAT and smelled wonderful.

I loved every moment of my haircut and started singing with a huge grin on my face as my new hair emerged, tamed, beautiful and ready for action. GRADUATION HERE I COME!!! She did exactly was i imagined, and i loved my haircut the moment i stood up from the chair. GO here, you will love it!!!

great haircut. The energy at Sprouts is cool and hip without the attitude. The one time I wasn't thrilled with my haircut, Rachel suggested I "be with the haircut a few days before changing it" Great advice. The haircut worked after all and grew out well. This past visit was with Naomi, a very talented stylist who gave me an excellent cut, exactly what I was looking for. A good haircut is not cheap and you get what you pay for. At Sprout you get a good haircut.

Finally!. I finally found an amazing haircut that not only looked great leaving the salon, but still looks equally great when i do it myself. As a guy every other cut I have received looked good when i walked out the door, but could not be replicated later by myself. Leah listened to what i wanted and did in a way that worked for me. You get what you pay for!!!

I'll be telling all my friends to go see her!!

Sprout is Overpriced. I went to the salon on the recommendation of a friend. I used her stylist. She gets charged $35 for her cut. I have very, very short hair. I was in the chair for 10 minutes after the shampoo and I got charged $60! I was in and out of the salon in 30 minutes, including the pre-cut discussion and the post-cut payment. It was like I got charged extra to breathe the air inside the trendy and pretentious salon. The salon web site lists men's & women's cuts $35-70. I will not be going back to Sprout.

The review from Last person must be from a salon down the street. How odd the hair color smelled like coconuts.. How stinky can coconuts be ? I received a beautiful cut.. My haircolor service was exactly what I communicated.. Leah is who I go to..Prices are comparable to an upscale salon.. The color lasts forever.. My hair is left in good condition ..and Hamden is safe and interesting

Great Haircuts. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but after spending years looking for someone to trust with my hair, CLIFF IS MY HERO! I am extremely picky about my hair and have been scalped by the best. Cliff has been cutting my hair for about a year and it is always great! No more bad hair days and I can sit in his chair and relax knowing that I'm being cut by someone who really knows what he is doing.

LEAH TAYLOR IS MY HAIR GODDESS. Taylor has been pruning my locks for over 5 years now and let me tell you any time i've strayed ive kicked myself. And every time she has accepted me back with a smile. That girl has style and it radiates to her designs. On top of that she is well-rounded, i've seen her go from up-dos to punnnnnnnk rock. I highly recommend her to anyone a little lost and in need of a new style. Just not too many people, I don't want to elbow my way in for a cut and color. My lastest cut is my favorite- thanks LEAH!!!

Sprout Rocks!. I had a haircut phobia for years, but Cliff cured it. He's awesome! On my first visit, he took extra time to consult with me (and to reassure me) and gave me the best cut I've ever had. Now I see him regularly for a cut and color, and I look forward to going in. Sprout itself is a beautifully designed space with attention to all sorts of cool detail. The co-owner, Alan, is a total sweetheart, and his organic products rock. I especially like the texture spray. I can't stop raving about Sprout!
