Tips for Bearsch's United Auto Ctr

June 11, 2013

I have known the owner of United Auto Center for over 40 years. I can take my vehicles (4) to them and know that I will be taken care of fairly and honestly. At times they have even lent me a car when I was in need. Charlie, the service manager, is great. He does not hard-sell and helps me priortize any needed repairs to help fit my budget. Any issues have been quickly and more than fairly resolved. Kudos, United Auto Center.

Getting ready to take another car for inspection - so far, I have had nothing but positive experience with these folks, and I have visited them at least 6-7 times over the past 10 years. The last car I took for inspection they charged $568 for the work (I knew work was warranted) compared to the Firestone up by Harford Mall, who tried to tell my teenaged son that the repairs would cost $1700+! Friendly, good work, and work is turned around in a very reasonable timeframe. So this car has been given a $1068 pricetag on work to pass inspection...will get back to you with...the rest of the story!

Bearsch's United Auto Center. I had a good experience at United Auto Center last week. I took my 04 Toyota Tacoma there for tires and was very happy. They even gave me a complimentry roadside assistance for a year. Everything was done in a timely manner.

Pray That There Are No Problems!!!. The true test for any business isn't how they treat you when everything goes right but how they treat you when there is a problem.

I was a customer of theirs for over 5 years and never had a problem with the quality of their work or customer service. On a Monday morning I brought wheels to them to have tires installed and balanced. In the process of dismounting the tire on one wheel the technician gouged the finish of the wheel badly around the center cap. A 1x1 inch area of the face of the wheel was scraped down to the bare aluminum.

After pointing out the damage when picking up my car I was told to leave the wheel with them so the boss (Bob) could see it and was told I would receive a call. Long story short, they wanted to use some mobile repair service that they had never used before. The company was supposed to show up twice and never came. I talked to Bob for the first time on the Monday two weeks after the damage occurred. He said I was making a big deal out of nothing and that the damage wasn't that bad. He accused me of lying about the price of the wheels ($600 for a set of Volk Racing GT-P forged 2-piece wheels) and then said he couldn't be bothered to look up the price on his own. He also stated that there were no guarantee's made about the condition of wheels that they handle so the paint damage isn't their problem.

CLIFFS: If you take your vehicle there then you better pray there isn't a problem because if there is then you'll get the run-around and called a liar.

long time customer, very pleased. I'm a long time patron of this establishment. My wife and I have used it for both our vehicles and I've recommended it to many of my neighbors. Always had a fair price, never had to wait for service. We wouldn't go anywhere else.

Highly Recommend. Have to say that I'm really surprised by the negative review before me because I have always had such a great experience with this garage...and trust me, I've been to my share of garages where I didn't have such a great experience! my family is relatively new to the area and Bearsch's was recommended to me by three different neighbors as a good garage. It's a family owned and run business, father and son (and once when we were there the son's wife was there with the grandson which was too cute to see all 3 generations at work!) They did the inspections on both our family cars when we first moved here, they've taken care of our oil changes and routine maintenance during the past 9 months that we've been here and they also took care of a brake problem we had with my husband's truck. Every time the service has been quick, well-priced, and the personell have been friendly and professional. We wouldn't go anywhere else!

NotGoingThere. UNITED AUTO CENTER, 2468 E Churchville Rd, Bel Air, MD, 21015 - Do not Trust them.

I went for state inspection. Before they did anything, I asked the guy to look at the van to see if I needed new tires. He looked at all wheels and said you’re Ok until next summer. I came back and he failed the van.

He failed it for the tires, the “Y flex Pipe”, and the “brake wheel Cyl” failed among other things.

I told Al that I will by 4 tires from The TireRack at a cost of ~ $307 (including shipping).

He said, no we can buy them cheaper from TireRack, install them for you and we can save you some money. On the TireRack website, he should be charging about $70 for Mounting, Balance, Valves, and Disposal. So that is about, $70 + Tax then add the tire cost $307 = $382.

I ended up paying $448. That means I bough a tire for $76, including shipping, and it cost me $112 out of his shop.

And he said, “…we can save you some money”. Thanks Al.

Now, the “Y flex Pipe” from the dealer is about $1100. At NAPA it is about $505. Guess how much he told me it will cost me for the part? $880, without installation. I hate to see how he’ll do the fuzzy math here at the end of the day.

I decided to go somewhere else.
