Delightful food – I went to Brewer's Art with a group of 10 people to celebrate my birthday. The accommodations were easy for them, even at the tail end of restaurant week. We got in a little earlier than we would normally eat, and the service remained impeccable throughout the busy dinner hour. The food was really amazingly good, and their beer and drinks were great too. After dinner, we went down to the charmingly almost-divey bar. It was a blast!
Exquisite food, laidback ambience, good brews – The chef is awesome, from Kentucky, but like he read Larousse Gastronomie! Humongous selection of brews, all thats missing is Harpoon IPA and attentive waitstaff
Great place for drinks – Brewer's Art is one of our favorite bars. It has great atmosphere, and an impressive beer selection. Besides their own brews, they have an extensive list of beers available from around the world. Its location makes it a perfect place to meet for drinks before or after eating at one of the many Mt. Vernon restaurants--or right there in their own dining room (although the food is only so-so). Try and snag one of the couches by the fire place, or head downstairs into the dimly lit basement, where it can be a bit smokey, but you will definitely feel you're in with the cool crowd.
Great food and beer - too busy – This place is incredibly crowded, but the long wait at the bar is tolerable only because the food and beer are both excellent. The vegetable sandwich is the best I've had during my weekend in Baltimore, and their fries are top-notch and addictive. The beer is good, solid Belgian style, some was high in alcohol. The service was good considering the large crowd of people, but I wouldn't say they were particularly friendly.
Great beer, so-so food – I love to drink their beer, especially in the basement. But don't bother with the fine dining (amateurish at best).
rosemary garlic fries! – Never had "rude" service here, but it does get loud and crowded, so it can be a little slow. Downstairs is a little young (mostly 20's) for me, but upstairs is great. Haven't had a bad experience in several dozen visits over the years.
BAD SERVICE good beer – I agree with what some other people have said. The bartenders are rude. Go to Brewer's Art for the beer and atmosphere, not for the service.
Bad Taste in the Mouth – Even though I have friends that recommend Brewer's Art, I have never had a pleasant experience. The bartenders are rude, ignore patrons and do not abide by "the customer is always right" rule whatsoever. I will not go back and I do not recommend it to anyone else.
An atmospheric alehouse that supplements its rich beer selection with Old World fine dining. – The Scene
The upstairs dining room makes the argument that beer can be just as classy as wine. Wood-paneled walls, old books and jazz music create the feel of a country library in the heart of Baltimore's chicest neighborhood. High ceilings, white tablecloths and a well-heeled crowd further the argument.
Like the beer, the menu changes with the season, but patrons can always find inventive takes on rustic European fare. With only nine main-course items offered at any given time, Brewer's Art wastes no room on boring basics. Instead, diners will find a hearty port-infused oxtail ragout topped with two perfectly seared slices of tuna, or a moist, flavorful double-bone pork chop served with braised cabbage. A salad of large grilled sardines with a timbale of fingerling potatoes makes for a bold beginning; a chai-spiced cake that tastes of chocolate and gingerbread is a sublime way to end.
