The Scene
Planted in the northwest corner of the Mount Vernon district, this atypical pizzeria has an open, airy atmosphere thanks to two walls of windows. The Egyptian decor--hieroglyphs and King Tut included--elevates the mood even further, though some might say the design borders on kitsch.
The Food
Kebabs, falafels and shwarma satisfy, but the idiosyncratic pizzas really set this place apart. Choices stretch from the slightly quirky Hawaiian (which combines shrimp with pignoli nuts, pineapple, tomatoes and mozzarella) to the inspired India (that somehow pulls off tandoori chicken and shrimp, spicy tomato yogurt curry, yellow squash and mozzarella cheese). With toppings running the gamut from pepperoni to mango chutney, you'll find something for every taste and some tastes strictly for the adventurous.

I have eaten here a bunch of times and have always enjoyed it. The pizza is among my favorite of all time---thin chewy crust with really interesting, delicious combinations of toppings. One individual pizza is enough if you're really hungry, and is also big enough to share if you're not starving. The hummus and other middle esatern dishes are great, too. The menu isn't huge but it's very varied so even a motley crew of eaters will all be happy with something or other. Service is very friendly and quick. Atmosphere is comfortable and quiet with big windows looking out onto the city streets.

Great Pizza! This place has some really funky pizzas. They all taste great, you can't go wrong with any one. From bbq to tandori chicken. The service has gotten much better.

Al Pacino's is located in the oddly shaped trangle corner between Read Street and Cathedral Street in historic Mount Vernon. They have a very eclectic menu, from authentic Greek and Italian dishes to specialty pizzas to a fine selection of Egyptian cuisine. Nearly everything that I've eaten at Al Pacino's is superb, with the least of the dishes still rating very good. Service is a bit slow, but I imagine that the authentic nature of the dishes is to blame more than the waiters. Prices are quite reasonable for such good food, and regulars vouch that this joint is one not to pass!
