Tips for Vaccaro's Italian Pastry Shop

Worst Service Ever! It was our family's misfortune to ever walk into this place. We waited over five minutes at the "wait to be seated sign" even with two empty tables; there were only 8-9 tables in the place and no one else waiting. We then had to wait another 10-15 minutes before the waitress served 3 waters for 4 people and took our simple order: iced cappacino, 1 scoop gelato, a tiramisu, and 1 order of 5 cookies. She left saying "your water will be right up," then ten minutes later I get my water with the iced cappacino. Again we wait more than 10 minutes for the food, while we watch most of the employees joking around the back door. Eventually, I see the tiramisu and the gelato being plated at the counter; the staff continued to play around while our food sat for several minutes. We finally had enough and walked out. They may have good desserts but we'll never know. I tried to complain to the manager, but he did not care and offered no apology. It was appalling and insulting the lack of customer service from the manager and wait staff . I thought my mixed race family was being discriminated until I heard the elderly couple behind us also complaining about lack of customer service. I'm sure the Vaccaro's founder is rolling in his grave.

Oh thats right they smelled like stone cold weed/pot?? complete lifeless wastes!! flirting w/ each other, 3x times asking me to reiterate my order?? WTF!!! when I got home to eat my overly priced paninni... covered in OLD ASS OLIVES with green mold??? stale bread!! the mgr was just hovering! was he stoned too!! NEVER AGAIN!! AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!

THE BEST!. Vacarro's is simply the best dessert anywhere. I've been going there since I was a little kid and even though I live in another city now, every time I'm back in B-more I make a point to go there for some gellato. The service is great, the food is great, go there RIGHT NOW!

Good desserts.... This place is quaint, and has a great selection of delectable desserts! Don't be fooled by the high prices - if you are not alone, feel free to split the desserts, as they are HUGE! I ordered a single scoop gelato, and couldn't even eat 1/3 of it. The gelato was very good, and I was sorry I couldn't possibly eat more. The latte was good, but the regular coffee was weak. If you are in the area, this is a neat little shop to check out.

Save Dessert for Vacarros but bring lots of money. This place has excellent Italian pastries (mmmm Meraviglioso!) but boy do you pay through the nose for it. I alway get the capuccino, cannoli, a sfoglietelle and a pignoli. $16 a pound is too much for any pastry. I mean that's more than steak. But I am too lazy to make these myself so I always come here (especially for holidays). And every friend I ever brought here was impressed! A good way to cap off an evening and wind up a date.

Dessert Perfection. We went to Vacarro's on a Monday night for the all-you-can-eat dessert, and I was absolutely delighted. Gianni, the waiter, was cordial, helpful, and unflappable in the midst of tons of customers. The tiramisu was easily some of the best I've had and the rum cake was amazing. The second round included a mini canoli and three scoops of chocolate hazelnut ice cream sandwiched between cream puff pastry. Again, the canoli was the best I'd ever had. The third round included spumoni and a sampler of canolis, a butterball, a pignoli cookie, and cream puffs. Finally! Some authentic spumoni! The pignoli cookies were surprisingly soft with a pleasant almond flavor. My husband and I had five cafe au laits between us, and they were wonderful. Even the little sugar cookie they put on the plate next to the mug is fabulous. This little pastry shop is a gem.

best desserts ever. Every time I am in Baltimore, I make it a point to stop at Vaccaro's for some cannolis (the best EVER) and an espresso. I just wish that there were more Vacarro's!

Dessert Heaven!. This is one of my favorite haunts. No matter where in the world I've been I always come back for a Vaccaro's Cannoli. The Pignoli cookies are also a favorite. This place cannot be beat for the best dessert in Baltimore. See you there!

Wildly popular since 1956, this sidewalk cafe has built a small empire on baked goodies, creamy gelatos and after-dinner drinks.. The Scene
Sparkling glass cases filled with tempting pastries, cheesecakes and cookies line the front of this corner shop which also has windows to spare. Every other inch is filled with small tables, which seat the throngs of dessert devotees who, weather permitting, spill out onto the sidewalk and snack under the awning and neon sign.

The Food
You may need to come back over again to sample the wide range of pastries available. Specialties include rum and cannoli cake, numerous flavors of napoleons and the creamiest gelato ever, in flavors like tiramisu, hazelnut and peanutto. The most popular desserts come from the specialita della casa list: These irresistible sundae-style concoctions of gelati and toppings are paired with cakes, brownies, or waffles. Servings are large enough for two or three to share. The apple strudel napoleon is served warm with creamy vanilla gelato and whipped topping then dusted generously with cinnamon.
