BEST restaurant in Little Italy.

Not enough people have heard of this place but they have a cabaret now, so i think it must be really up and coming. My favorites include the osso bucco, red beet ravioli, penne stratsciatte, and all of their fish is grilled to perfection and seasoned with fresh herbs. Our group was blown away by a grilled rockfish. The only dishes I haven't tried are probably the veal/chicken dishes.

I bought a Groupon for Germano's with the intention of taking our friends to dinner in our quest to conquer the restaurants we have never dined in within Little Italy district of Baltimore. Called our friends and planned our trip. I made a reservation via Open Table for 6 of us which worked out great!

We all arrived and entered the restaurant where we were greeted warmly and showed to a table for six , had ice water poured and given a chance to look at the menu. In the comments of the Open Table rez, I mentioned that we had a Groupon which our friendly waitress mentioned. I opened my phone browser so she could see which one we had purchased and she gave us some options that we could do other than the four glasses of house wine that was in the original offering. I selected a bottle of wine that was brought at a discount. We were offered a bread with a lovely olive tapenade. This was definitely out of the ordinary, not to mention quite tasty.

As I looked around the restaurant, I noticed the decor was not the normal of traditional Little Italy. Where we were seated was dark furniture and paneling. It was very warm and inviting....probably the only thing missing was the red and white checked tablecloths. Most of what you see in Little Italy looks like you are in someone's home....Germanos feels like a bistro in Europe.

So by now, our lovely gal returned with the wine, let my hubby and I taste it, then poured for our group. She took some time to explain the menu and gave us a little time to decide on our choices. When she returned, we took our appetizer selections, which she immediately carried back to the kitchen while we perused the menu for our entrees.

She came back to get our entree orders and to collect the menus. All of us got something different. We had a child and preteen with us and the waitress asked if she should bring their food when the appetizers were brought. We knew the younger of the two would have no interest in the appetizers, so asked if they would be so kind to do that...it was met with "of course" and smile.

Food was perfectly timed from the appetizer to the main course. Germanos salad left something to be desired, especially since most of the restaurants in the area pride themselves on a signature dressing. The dressing was a unimaginative vinaigrette. I was expecting something a little more on such a beautiful salad. Thankfully the entrees made up for it. The menu went far beyond the normal pasta and veal dishes. The sauces were nothing short of spectacular.

All in all a good experience, everyone was very friendly and food was good....we will return! :)

Best Italian Restaurant in Baltimore – Don't know how all these other people had bad dining experiences. I have never had a bad meal at Germanos! The food is excellent! I would get the Lasagna, which is orange, but very tasty. I would highly recommend going here.

I have been to a lot of Italian restaurants in Little Italy and around Baltimore. Most are overhyped and ok. I think Germanos is the Best Italian Restaurant in town!

Worst Dining Experience I've Ever Had – Let me qualify this by first saying that I will eat just about anything - My husband and I are not a picky eaters. The food at Germano's was simply horrible and the service was lousy too. The waitress was so quick to offer us free dessert after waiting 30 minutes for our drinks to arrive, it was clear this was standard practice for her. Here's what we experienced:

7 pm - seated for dinner

7:05 - ordered drinks and appetizers

7:35 - appetizers arrive w/o drinks. Bruschetta is stale bread with overly vinegared tomatoes. Marinara for calamari is tasteless. Waiter explains there is only one bartender.

7:40 - drinks arrive, ice has melted

8:00 - bread arrives and looks as though it's been man-handled by whomever sliced it. Small chunks/slices where the middle is not thoroughly baked so it's more like heavy dough balls

8:10 - after asking for butter twice we get butter and also a plate rosemary with some olive oil tossed in - The oil is so heavily herbed it's inedible. We're so hungry that we eat the heavy dough balls with butter

8:15 - Waitress offers us free salad due to the lengthy wait. We're handed a mound of red wine vinegar soaked arugula that is now slightly brown due to the vinegar, and small cubes of something white mixed in. We're not sure if it's egg white or cheese, but it doesn't matter the vinegar renders the salad inedible.

8:30 Our entrees arrive. My first bite of grilled fish includes 3 bones, a bit of fish fat and mushy fishy tasting fish. The plate has white fish and white potatoes with a slice of lemon. My husband's veal is smothered in the tasteless marina, the veal is like rubber and the salt is so heavy, I spit out the one bite I tried.

8:50 - Our free dessert arrives. The cream puffs are heavy and the cream grainy. Cheesecake was okay.

I cannot believe there was a diner's award sticker from Open Table on the door to this place. Open Table must offer these stickers to restaurants for a fee. Stay away, very far away! It is really unbelievable to think that the person running the kitchen has any culinary training. They should be ashamed of themselves for luring people in with their weekly cabarets. The dining room was packed with friends and family of the cabaret performers there that night. I'm sure the performers were embarassed by the food their friends and family forked out good money for.

Worst food I have ever paid for – I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. This retaurant had the worst food I have ever been served. When I told the waiter that I didn't enjoy my meal, he asked if it was because I didn't enjoy capers. I told him that there was a weird fish flavor. Granted, it was supposed to be a salmon gnocci dish. However, rather than actually having salmon in it, the best I can figure is that the pasta was boiled in water than once came in contact with fish of some kind. So when I told him I just didn't like the fish flavor, he took the plate without saying a word, and waited another 20 minutes before bringing us the check. After reading past reviews, I see that calling tomorrow and complaining to a manager or owner would do no good. I was actually tempted to tell the people waiting to be seated to run fast!

Disasterous Restaurant – I came to Germano's with a party of 3 expecting some decent Italian food was was treated to another experience. The food tasted as though it was cooked in the morning and reheated in a large batch which it most likely was. The owner Germano came over smiling and asked how our food was and we just nodded. He then walked away and screamed at a server. So much for the freshness of Tuscany. The chicken tasted like rubber. The veal was fried to a brick and covered with a sauce to conceal the dryness. Employee's were yelling at each other and singing rap songs. The Manager did not seem in control. The highlight was an overpriced extremely bitter cappuccino that tasted it had been sitting in a coffeepot all day.

Germano's is a BAD choice – I enjoy dining out quite often and have explored most of the fine Baltimore cuisine. I have to admit that I have never had a more unpleasant dining experience than at Germano's. Customer service is NOT a priority for Germano's and they have absolutely no respect or concern for their customers. After a dispute with the owner about an item on the bill, the owner of the restaurant, instead of taking time to explain the charge, snubbed the claim with contempt and told our party to never return. My own dish happened to be one of the most unpleasant experiences for my palate, to which the owner responded in contempt, "too bad". Enough said. Do not go there.

Tuscan food at its best – I highly recommend Germano's for a special occasion with some truly special. It is romantic and the food and serve are great.
