Saturday night surprise. Although I usually stick to the popular bars in Federal Hill, Canton, and Fells Point, a friend had recommended I check out 13th Floor on Saturday nights. I had been in there in the past and was not overly impressed, but decided to head over with some co-workers after dinner at Brewer's Art. We were expecting to arrive to the normal house mix that the bar is known (unfortunately?) for, yet before the elevator door even opened were greeted with the familiar sound of Kool & theGang. Drinks were average price for a Saturday night, and the crowd was fairly diverse in both age and ethnicity. Interestingly enough though, the dance floor was packed with people who just seemed to be out for a good time. The DJ kept things moving along very well and played the mood of the floor perfectly depending who was out there. Songs ranged from late 70's hits up to last week's top 40. Overall we had a great time, and the music/dancing is probably what ended up keeping us there until last call.
Come for the view and you'll be ok. I frequented the 13th Floor to see bands that I liked, and I usually went with friends, which meant that I always had a great time. Their happy hours can also be mellow and nice on a day without too many people. Although I'm usually accompanied, I always end up having interesting conversations with people I meet there. The drinks are so-so, but I'm more of a dancer than a drinker so key for me was picking the right night with good music; the view is spectacular so even if it's too loud to chat, you can always let your gaze wander over the cityscape; and the space is small enough to feel cozy but large enough so that you can move about and mingle with others, if that's what you're looking for. I think it's a pretty good scene for Baltimore!
Great View.....Horrible place. This bar has great views...and NOTHING else going for it. There is a difference between a run down "dive bar" that cool people go to and a run down bar that run down people go to. The 30 $ I spent between parking/cover and 1 quick round is the best money I ever spent.....I means I will never go back!
Fantastic view, interesting people. The views are fantastic, especially after dark. This is a great place to take a date or out of town friends. Sit near the windows, but these spots can be hard to come by if it gets crowded. Dress nicely, bring money, and enjoy fantastic drinks with great service. Expect to pay at least $10 for a cosmo plus a tip for the bartender or cocktail server. You will almost certainly have to pay to park also. There is parking in the hotel garage. It is really worth it though, especially for a special night out. There are lots of decent restaurants in the area for before-cocktails dinner. A really special place.
At The Belvedere hotel's disco, sophisticated singles toast the town while enjoying spectacular views..
In Short
Literally on the 13th floor, invigorating martinis and live reggae or mambo music lure young professionals onto a small, festively lit dance floor. The nearby contemporary cocktail lounge is laid out in rich burgundy and black hues. Leopard print rugs lend a playfully swank touch, but the window seats with a bird's eye view of downtown are the prime real estate. Two modern bars of glistening faux cracked glass serve any upscale cocktail you can dream up.
