Sheppard Pratt Center for Eating Disoders.
Please never send yourself or a loved one to this center. At the CED, you are treated like a prisoner. One of the rules they have is having to meet daily weight gains, as opposed to a healthy weekly weight gain trend. Even if you have eaten 100%, not purged, and have not exercised, you are punished by not being able to take a shower, use the phone, go outside, or have visitors. Every day that you don't make weight your meal plan is upped, even if you meet double the weight gain goals for one day and don't meet them the next. They'll have you go three days without taking a shower.
You aren't allowed to stand, because it supposedly burns too many calories, and for the same reason showers are limited to eight minutes. Nobody can shave or bring tweezers, no exercising is allowed, and no group is given to teach exercising in a healthy manner, no hoodies, no mirrors, or any wires at all. They don't even have lamps. You are woken up around 5 in the morning, can't go back to get dressed until 10 pm, and are not allowed to take naps. You can't go into your room during the day and you can only go to the bathroom at scheduled times. The meal plan doesn't go by exchanges and the kitchen doesn't follow proper portion sizes. If a meal is unfinished, and you don't drink your supplement, you have to sit in he dining room until the next meal. You can't go to your therapist or any of your groups, giving patients that aren't recovery oriented no opportunity to change their views. The doctors, if the patient is an adolescent, hardly ever gets in touch with the parents, so you have no idea what they're doing to your kid. Doctor's won't provide laxatives until you don't have a bowel for two weeks, nobody can smoke, and the doctors always reduce the strength of your nicotine patch regardless if you want to give up smoking. Patients can go outside for 15 minute intervals, and that is only if they have made weight and a nurse is willing to take you. I have no space for more
Amature who demeans patients.
I've been working with psychiatrist for the last 20 years to manage a mood disorder. This doctor is one of the worst I've ever worked with. The intake appoinment- generally where a medical and psychiatric history is taken- consisted of asking me my diagnosis and list of current meds. Nothing else! He knows the basics of most meds, but is clearly unfamilary with interactions and many side effects. He is routinely 30 minutes to 1 hour late for appointments and brushes off any comments that this is unprofessional behavior. He refuses to return phone calls- instead insisting on a "drop in" to talk which consists of sitting in the waiting room between 11-2 on a weekday waiting to see if he has any time. Sometimes there is a 3 hour wait, then you're told he has no time to see you!! He refuses to work around work schedules and insists any communication happen between 10 am and 2 pm at patients home.
Truly an amature and should not be used.
