Editorial Review for Mamie's Cafe – by Steve Lichtenstein
The Scene
Mamie's is like a thrift shop owned by a grandmother, but hopefully not yours. The huge dining area is divided into sections, some of which you can smoke in and others you can't. The walls are smattered with various doodads and pictures of old Baltimore, while stoves, ancient benches and other antiques cover the floor.
The Food
Mamie's food is the type your mom would make if she were an old-school Baltimore hon. These affordable meals have a taste quite their own. The Chicken Portafino (chicken and apples in Alfredo-like pasta) is well-worth a go. The Chicken a la Mamie (ham and Swiss-covered chicken with pasta in a brown gravy sauce) is surprisingly . . . interesting. They also offer steaks, sandwiches, pizza, and thick, rich calzones. Try the three-tiered (white, regular and dark) chocolate mousse cake. Wow.

Mamie's closed over a year ago. There are rumors it might re-open in a new location but so far it hasn't happened. The food was so-so but the service was awful.

Our company orders from mamie's for our clients. they consistently forget orders, replace items that are missing at their leisure, and screw up the easiest of menu items (grilled cheese?!) i would not recommend them to a starving stray, let alone someone looking for good eats in the city. go to paper moon.
