A Place that you can Count On. Having dealt with Service Photo for many years I know that I can count on them to help me out when I really need them! I remember more than once needing help with very little notice and having Burke and his crew come through for me! It is nice to know that dealing with Service Photo I have established a relationship, something that in this day and age is much less common. I remember having one of my camera bodies break on me 1 week before a major job and Service Photo came through and helped me out! Word of mouth is very important nowadays and I send everyone that I know to Service Photo! So if you want knowledgeable help that you can really trust..... stop looking and go straight to Service Photo!!

Look no further for your photo equipment needs!. Expert or novice this is you're one stop shop. Not once but twice the expert staff has saved me a lot of money, literally thousands, by explaining the pro's and con's of equipment I was looking at. They have always pointed me in the direction of what works for me and not their bottom line. That is not easy to find from many businesses today. I am always greeted with a smile and always well taken care for by this group of folks that aren't just working in a retail store but know about, and are passionate about photography. I send my friends and family to them so let me give you the same courtesy.

Thanks for the kind words. The fact is simple: we're focused on getting our customers the right equipment for their needs. With profit margins in the camera business as they are (very small), we're not concerned whether your gear costs a little or a lot! If we guide our customers toward the equipment that best matches their needs, they will be happy - and refer family, friends, & co-workers to Service Photo. That's what has kept us going strong for a long time!

Not Rude, Just Busy.. There are many folks that would love to have a photo place of this nature close to home. My choice for many years was a choice between running 1 hour to Service or dealing with a more local place that had a lot less to offer. In 27 years as a pro I have seen places come and go. Service Photo on good days is full of dedicated customers & usually there is a reason for that. I have had pleasant converstaions and heated anti digital photography discussions there, hey but thats the beauty of such a place, be grown up and realize a business is a buisness and it has to stay in business. In quite few instances Service has meet similar pricing to the big New York dealers. I would not hesitate to venture there if I was starting out again in my Photo career. I know they will continue to be my supplier for the important photo stuff I need.

Great selection, great service! Check them out!. I've spent quite a bit of money over the years at Service Photo, which should give you some indication of the type of place it is. I wouldn't go back if their prices were lousy and the staff was unfriendly. It is easy to order online, but Service Photo keeps me coming back.

I have found their prices competitive with online retailers like BH Photo and Adorama. I recall that I have had them price match with those two retailers on more than one occasion. And remember, there is something about being able to inspect the gear you are buying before you shell out the money for it, even if it is new. For example, you can bring your own camera in and test a lens on it before you buy.

In my experience, I have not found their in-stock items to be lacking. Just about any lens I've asked about, they have had in stock, including longer and rarer super telephotos. In fact, I can only think of one instance, a Zeiss lens, that they did not have in stock... not exactly a typical lens, but regardless they still have Zeiss glass in stock (just not the lens I was interested in).

I've bought used gear from them and I've sold used gear to them. You never quite know what you will find in the used section, but I've gotten some real gems from them at competitive used prices. Again, much nicer to buy from them, be able to inspect the gear, and have a return policy rather than some no-name eBay seller who wants top retail dollar but won't back it up with service or a return policy. I actually found a camera for a friend of mine in California. I e-mailed him pics, the price was great, and he made arrangements with them to have it shipped to him. How can you beat that!?!

They have a very nice selection of film, both in 35mm and 120 format - B&W, color negative, and slide. They also have some 4x5 sheet film. With film use dwindling these days, it is nice to have a local place where you can go and find a nice selection of film in-stock, rather than ordering online. Also, plenty of film developing gear, including a nice selection of different chemicals.

The staff there has always been courteous, willing to help, and knowledgeable, not just about new gear, but also about older and vintage gear, different types of film and developers, and various accessories, such as lighting, filters, tripods, etc.

So, overall, I'd say if you are thinking of buying online, head to Service Photo first. They know their stuff and they'll treat you right!

Good Local Shop. About 50/50 chance they will have in stock what you are looking for, and if not you can put your order on a "wish list", or something. Been waiting for a product for five years to come in stock. Expensive. Cheaper to buy from New York.

We cannot be everything to everybody. But, our inventory is the largest camera & photo related inventory of any single store in Maryland, We got tons of products in stock, but we order from manufacturers every day - so you'll never wait long for more obscure or specialty items. Of course, manufacturers sometimes have longer backorders - but they are not usually too long. As for prices, ours are not only the best local & regional prices - but our prices are often the same or better than internet prices from the world's largest camera dealers.

Rude. I recently made an inquiry with there service. I really need a film scanner and I can only pay half. I sent a quick note about paying to hold it and receieved the following:

Please do not bid on our unit. We need payment in full immediately, or the deal will be cancelled. Your proposal is kind of rididulous.

Thanks,

Burke Seim, Owner

Service Photo Supply, Inc.

firstly amazing spelling here, and why would it have been so hard to curtiously say no? Also I was surprised to see this is from the owner.

This review is in response to a very specific Ebay listing, for a rare & expensive film scanner. Our listing clearly indicated that we would accept bids only from the USA. This guy repeatedly asked us to ship the item to him in Canada - and he asked for a payment plan - because he could not actually afford to pay for the scanner. We politely declined his requests several times, and explained to him why we could not help him. But, he was persistent - and repeatedly asked us for the same things over, and over, and over again. We said "no" politely - several times, but he did not seem to listen. Finally, we felt the need to tell him bluntly that his request for a payment plan was ridiculous, and his request for shipment to Canada was not possible, and to please stop bothering us with his requests.

Our reputation for polite & helpful expert service is well documented. Try us - we think that you will appreciate our product selection, competitive prices, and friendly service!
