Great athmosphere, bad food.
Those who live on this side of town know: you definitely DON'T go to Bay Cafe for the food. Bay cafe is a great place to hang out and drink with your friends. They have a sandy area with palm trees and tiki torches which is really cool. It gets a little rowdy on weekend nights which is good if yo're into that. Again, stay away from the food and you'll be okay.

bad service, bad food.
First, it took 15 minutes for someone to decide to wait on us. When our appetizer finally arrived, the Crab Dip was Old Bay and cheese... not sure where the crab was. The shrimp salad, while enormous, did not tatse extremely fresh. A filet ordered MR was closer to MW, but it would have been difficult for us to tell our waitress, since she never asked how it was. We misguidedly decided to get coffee drinks at the end of the meal, which was spoiled (litterally) when the creamer that we poured in it was full of soured chunks. I (finally) had to go reorder the drinks from the bar, but as the coffee was lukewarm at best, I did not enjoy it. The soured creamer was not appologized for, and the explanation that we were given is that the restaurant's cooler is sometimes broken and the food goes bad. Sounds good, doesn't it??? My friend and I both have been waitresses for years and were incapable of leaving less than a 20% tip, but I feel as though the rest of Baltimore should know what they are getting into if they decide to eat here. Stick with drinks and enjoy the view.

Baltimore city has its own waterside cafe with a beachwear-clad crowd, tall drinks and tiki torches..
The Scene
Kick back, sip a frozen drink and watch boats dock just feet away from your table as you dine under the glow of flaming tiki torches. No, you're not on the beach, you've simply discovered Bay Cafe. The restaurant is open year-round, but the outdoor, on-the-water dining is especially appealing during warm weather.
The Food
Seafood is Bay Cafe's specialty, but the menu is also full of jumbo burgers, oversized sandwiches, soups and salads. The shrimp-salad sandwich is famous among regulars; delivered on your choice of bread, it's the most generous portion of shrimp salad around. The raw bar and crab dip appetizer are also big hits. Inside tip: Crab cakes can wow, but the soft-shell crabs could be just a little bit fresher.

sunday brunch- a little overrated.
i'd have to agree w/the previous poster...their sunday brunch wasn't quite as fantastic as i was expecting, but it was quite tasty. atmosphere can't be beat, right along the water.

an experience!.
what a great place to have a great time with friends or family. Laid back, relaxing or a helluva party. the atmosphere is one where you can simply enjoy the good food, good service and view or you can get wild with your friends at the jamaican me crazy parties.

OVERRATED.
I was just going over some of the reviews and let me say this, the food here is bad. Don't get me wrong, if you want the view and the atmosphere, this is one of the best places. Go, have a drink, but, with the exception of the shrimp salad, the food is terrible.

POCAHONTAS.
I think Bay Cafe is wonderful. My co-workers and I come there every Friday for the best happy hour Baltimore has seen in years. They have 2 for 1 drink specials from 5-8pm on Fri. The food for happy hour is so so, but the drinks, themusic, and the people are wonderful. If you're looking for a great place to hang out come here and if its on a happy hour Friday look for POCAHONTAS:)
