In german one would simply describe
this place as KRASS or ECKELHAFT or simply DISGUSTING BEYOND WORDS. This place is located about 3 miles from Baltimore's downtown. It is off a main road and when driving there we were actually thinking our GPS got confused again - and this time I truly wish it did. When you enter "that place" there is 3 rows of about 5 tables each row. White tablecloth, red napkin - all looks nice. Only on closer inspection you will find the tablecloth full of old stains which is understandable. Since they serve red cabbage things can happen and those stains are hard to get off.
Anyway I live in the south, and have been to standard redneck dinner with white trash staff that yells at each other through the whole place as if they were still home at their trailer, but this place takes a white trash behavior to a completely new level. I would call it a WHITE TRASH AT ITS FINEST given the fact that average "meal" - if you can call it that - costs about USD 16.00. So in this "fine place" one of the waitress starts to holler at some friend guest who just came by to visit, right after we placed our order. Within shouting she manages to bring some bread rolls with those small individually packaged butter containers - quite few of them already "pre-opened" and evidently used by someone else before us. At that point I decide for a visit to bathroom and notice - their 2 wings door - originally painted white - have evidently never been washed as there are large black stains form fingerprints within 2 feet radius of the door grip. NO JOKING. The same on both bathroom doors. At that point I start to make sure not to touch anything. "Food" arrives. The Picture below is HasenPepper (Rabbit in Pepper Sauce) and NO this PICTURE was NOT TAKEN AFTER I VOMITED it back at the plate. Perhaps someone else did because it certainly looks as this has been already eaten by someone who then threw it back up on the plate and only then it was served to me again. It certainly not only looks like it but tasted like VOMIT as well. My party did not got much luckier with his order of GordonBlue. What arrived was a schnitzel with slice of old ham and slice of melted cheese a top - not inside. I dared to taste his and the meat was definitely not fresh, one more day and it would walk of that plate on its own. The waitress seen my disgusted face expression, even seen me taking pictures of "this" but never dared to ask how is everything, Although the food was hardly touched she brought us the bill and let us pay in full.
I used to live in germany and am not particular fan of their cooking, but about once a year I feel like german food. There is a place in Georgia - Helen- where they heavily capitalize on all the tourists they get - I have eaten at many places there and the food is average at best but what they served in this place I have never ever been served before. To this day I get nauseous just thinking of this place and still closely monitor myself for signs of E-Coli, salmonella and HEPATITIS B. As for me and my party we know we are done with German food for good. Period. The same with Austrian food (since EichenKranz advertises them selves as Austrian restaurant and also Swiss - nothing Swiss on the menu though). And every time I feel just a little rednecky I will humbly visit some good ol' southern dinner middle of nowhere where i can be sure that health department would shut it down if it ever drops to levels such I have seen in Eichenkranz - ZUM KOTZEN!!!
Don't waste your time. Nasty place. The waiter couldn't have cared less if we were there or not. The Veal was straight outta a SYSCO freezer bag with a few little capers thrown on once it had been melted in the deep fryer.
