The Scene
Started in 1959, this local chain references its natal decade with broadly executed, non-invasive design elements. Patrons won't find waitresses in poodle skirts or chefs with Elvis hairdos. Instead, expansive dining areas--twice the size of their milkshake-making predecessors--feature countless high-backed booths with formica tables and a small counter with padded, spinning stools. Located primarily alongside highways, these tamed down truck spots have successfully targeted the SUV-driving masses.
The Food
Quantity takes precedence over quality in a menu that fills one oversized, laminated spiral notebook with ease. Eggs, burgers, sandwiches and salads are all accounted for with expected fare coming in myriad variations. That means pancakes are topped by strawberries, blueberries, chocolate chips or apple raisin cinnamon as well as syrup; poultry and fish are prepared alfredo, marsala and caprese. A handful of Greek specialties acknowledge the founders' ethnicity but this bustling enterprise is more a tribute to the American entrepreneur than a Mediteranean expatriate.

I was there on Saturday to get dessert as they have a variety of good ones. I went back on Tuesday evening to pick up a strawberry cake that I found to be especially good. I wanted to have my sisters and brothers taste it to decide if we would order several cakes for an upcoming family event. There were several hotesses around, welcoming and seating customers, and a young man at the register. Two of the hotesses looked directly at me and purposely turned away, ignoring me. (this is after they had seated others and had nothing else to do, but just stand in one place). Finally, I walked up to the young man and inquired about the cake. He went into the back to check. Unfortunately they had no more of this particular cake. Still, I walked over to the cake display, checking for other selections. I turned around to see one of the hotesses just gazing at me. She never asked if she could help me, nothing. I won't be returning. I had the distinct feeling of prejudice and hatred. Beware of businesses like this; you don't know what they might be stirring up in the back kitchen.

This is a good place to eat if you like to take home extras. They have an enormous selection on their menu. I think they would be better if they cut back and perfected specific types of food. The seating and atmosphere are pleasant. The hostess and waitress were very nice. I used to frequent Double T for work lunches. It is a busy and bustling place.

This place is a good traditional diner. They have all the usual fare and they are speedy. They serve breakfast all day long and you can get some yummy deserts.
