Terrible restaurant in all ways. Lousy experience. Second time I've been to Double T Diner in Catonsville. On my first visit several months ago, I was "impressed" by the rudeness of the staff; very unfriendly; very brusque. The food was okay but nothing special. As a recent West Coast transplant, I was disappointed. I had heard this place was a big Baltimore institution! If it is, this town is in even worse trouble than I thought! At 5:00 this morning, 9/3/10, on my way to work at a nearby government complex, I decided to stop in for breakfast (it was the only place I knew to be open at that hour). As soon as I entered, the foreign-sounding "hostess" (she looked and sounded Greek or Turkish) ignored me and carried on a gossipy conversation with a fellow female employee. I had to interject and ask for a table for one. Greek Lady handed me a menu, continued talking to her friend, never said a word to me, and seated me at some claustrophic tiny table, surrounded by three adjacent larger tables full of very rowdy, profane young thugs. My restaurant "companions" all sounded drunk; acted very belligerant; engaged in "f*** this!" "f*** that!" "go f*** yourself!" kind of "conversation." Very intimidating. I wondered why Greek Lady or one of the other brilliant restaurant managers didn't call the cops. This can't be good for business, I thought. Then I found myself waiting over five minutes; maybe ten, before the only waitress on duty - or so it appeared - chose to greet me. Actually, she just passed me to refill the coffee cups of the thugs around me. When I tried to get her attention as she retreated to the kitchen, she said, "I'll get to you when I can, okay??" That's when I said, "Yeah, right!" and got up and left. I passed by Greek Lady, still yakking away to her friend (Hey, Constantinople Babe: Would it kill you to get off your FAT ASS and serve coffee?), and said, "Your service SUCKS!!!" I will never go back. Furthermore, I will never recommend this GHETTO RESTAURANT to anyone again as I have in the past.
I LOVE AND MISS THE DOUBLE T DINER. WHAT EVER PEOPLE SAY ABOUT THE DOUBLE T DINER DONT WORRY THEY'RE JUST OPINIONS I KNOW THE DINER INSIDE AND OUT , I WORKED THERE FROM 92 TO 98 IT WAS MY BEST WORK EXPERIENCE, AS WELL AND THE FOOD I LOVED IT! I WILL TELL U JOHN KOROLOGOS THAT YOU SHOULD BRING ONE TO MISSISSIPPI I KNOW IT WOULD BE A BIG SUCCESS DOWN HERE ON THE BEACH THEY HAVE NOTHING LIKE THAT HERE. I KNOW FOR A FACT AND FROM EXPERIENCE THAT THE DOUBLE T DINER IS A MEMORABLE PLACE TO VISIST!
The Place to Be!.
I work at the Double T Diner, and I can guarantee you that no one's food gets spat in. That must have been the doings of the person that wrote the previous review and if that's the case, good thing they're gone! The staff at Double T are great, and they do
not take their personal problems out on their customers! DTDs great food and great service shows in that it is always packed! Thank you to all devoted customers!
DON'T EAT HERE!. Don't eat here!!! I used to work here and the staff spits in your food...and you don't want to know what else. Let's just say they collect their urine and feces to be used as ingredients. If you think they're rude and have an attitude...what they do behind your back is worse.
Nothing To Write Home About.
I went to the Catonsville Double T after a coworker recommended that I try it out. I was a little less than pleased.
I got a seat right away which is good and was given a few minutes to pick something out. However, when my omelet arrived it was slightly burnt. It wasn't bad enough to send back but a diner like this shouldn't screw up omelets at all. Also my toast had obviously been sitting out for some time and one of the pieces wasn't toasted. It had just been placed in a toaster long enough to dry out and then dried out even more as it sat in the kitchen for who knows how long.
The service was OK. My waiter wasn't very friendly and I had to wait a long time for a drink refill. However, he did come back to check on me and got me more ketchup when I asked. I was happy enough with him to leave a decent tip.
I did like the busy atmosphere and the decor.
Perhaps some of the other Double T's in the area are better but I won't be back to visit this one.
Service?. I was there on Saturday to get dessert as they have a variety of good ones. I went back on Tuesday evening to pick up a strawberry cake that I found to be especially good. I wanted to have my sisters and brothers taste it to decide if we would order several cakes for an upcoming family event. There were several hotesses around, welcoming and seating customers, and a young man at the register. Two of the hotesses looked directly at me and purposely turned away, ignoring me. (this is after they had seated others and had nothing else to do, but just stand in one place). Finally, I walked up to the young man and inquired about the cake. He went into the back to check. Unfortunately they had no more of this particular cake. Still, I walked over to the cake display, checking for other selections. I turned around to see one of the hotesses just gazing at me. She never asked if she could help me, nothing. I won't be returning. I had the distinct feeling of prejudice and hatred. Beware of businesses like this; you don't know what they might be stirring up in the back kitchen.
Meh, It's Open All Night.
Being open 24/7 is pretty much the reason why the Double T endures. Not the best food in town, not the worst, either. This a good restaurant for large groups, they seem pretty flexible about adding tables, etc. The huge menu means most diets can be accommodated. The desserts look better than they taste.
You can get better food up the street at Shirley's but they can't handle large groups as well as Double T. The service is not excellent (sometimes it's downright bad) but not as consistently bad as the Paper Moon or Burke's. They do take their time serving you. It's less annoying in a large group.
The prices are in line with similar restaurants, neither a bargain nor outrageously expensive. If you want bargain food, you'd be better off going up Rolling Road to Pioneer Pit Beef. But it's cheaper than Paper Moon.
There's nothing here that would make me vow never to come back but nothing memorable to make me suggest it UNLESS you have a large group of diverse tastes. Then coming here makes sense.
What's up with the Gratuity fee?. The experience i had Double T Diner wasn't the worst but far from the best. The biggest down all i feel they have is the Gratuity fee. A tip is a courtesy Not an obligation. The service was poor, and in my opinion the waiters and waitresses at a buffet provide a friendlier atmosphere. The food isn't afordable, it'scheap. I've always looked at a Diner a placewith wholesome meals. Double T Diner serves frozen fench fries, but home made gravy. One positive thing i can say is this, their Cheesecake is too Die for. I'm willing to get up in the middle of the night to get a piece, and risk losing sleep, lol
Not the same. Visited Double T in the past and it certainly has changed. I like the fact that I can get breakfast at 2 p.m. or 2 a.m. But it's not worth the trip. Servers are not the most pleasant, food quality has decreased and prices have increased.
Was ok till i got my charge card bill. I had an ok dinner there recently and i left and got the info from my bank that i'd been overcharged. I promptly called them and asked to speak to the manager. When the manager got on the phone he was rather irate and rude implying that i was stupid and that it was "Impossible" for that to happen. I work in retail. it isn't Impossible. I don't recommend this place because of the managers inability to act professionaly.
