Housed in the Sultan of Swat's birthplace, this museum commemorates Baltimore baseball greats..
Overview
Yankee Stadium may be "the house that Ruth built," but George Herman "Babe" Ruth, Jr., was born in Baltimore. The Great One was born here on Feb. 6, 1895, in the second-floor bedroom of his maternal grandfather's home. (His parents lived above a nearby saloon.)
Features
His grandfather's small rowhouse is now the Babe Ruth Birthplace and Baseball Center, and the bedroom has been carefully re-created. Two adjacent houses memorialize Ruth's baseball career, including a display about the homer he hit for little Johnny in the hospital bed. The museum isn't only about the Sultan of Swat. An entire room is devoted to Oriole Cal Ripkin, and features a banner celebrating the game in which he broke the consecutive game record held by Lou Gehrig.
