recent visit to John Stevens. Stopped in at John Steven's this weekend for the first time in a while and was delighted to see that the features we always liked were still there. Great fresh cut fries, delicious mussels and very friendly bar staff. Had chance to chat with the chef about some of the dishes and themes he has in mind for this spring/summer and heard hopeful news about possibly bringing back more of the raw bar offerings that were available in the past. As always, when we left we were telling ourselves that we need to come by more often since we always leave with a great feeling about the food and folks who served us.

Much Improved over last years. John Steven ltd. has, over the last couple of years, greatly improved the quality of food, staff, and atmosphere. Great lunch and dinner, and now serving Sunday brunch as well! Still know for the steamed shrimp and crab cakes, John Steven has become a Fell's Point favorite. Ask about daily specials, and seasonal draughts. Have not served sushi in over four years, all these reviews I read are years old, its crazy.

Used to be excellent. I agree with the previous review. I wasn't aware of the new ownership but was seriously disappointed after bringing an out of town guest here and raving about my memory of wonderful food. Although she enjoyed her small, but pricey crab cake appetizer, I was highly disappointed in the shrunken menu. Not much looked appealing and my husband and I both ended up with simple appetizers. The wine list was still good, but the menu was disappointing.

SO SAD! THIS PLACE USED TO BE WONDERFUL! STAY CLEAR!. John Stevens used to be a wonderful place to bring out of town guests or dine for a special occasions. However, recently under new ownership, this place has gone from fabulous to heinous! Food is hardly edible and in fact has made several people sick. Menu has shrunk and prices remain high despite the quality. It's such a shame that what was once a Baltimore staple is now such a disappointment.

From fish-and-chips to crab cakes, this lively restaurant's seafood menu brings a little bit of everything to Fells Point.. The Scene
Upon entering John Steven's, you'll find a fun, lively bar complete with your favorite draft beers. The dining room is a comfy enclave where wooden cases are filled with African art and artifacts. In warm weather, the best seats are in the cozy, flower-lined courtyard lit with flickering candles.

The Food
Seafood (mussels, clams, crab cakes, fresh catches of the day) is the traditional favorite here. The fish-and-chips--which certainly aren't made with prepackaged frozen filets--are beer-battered and wrapped in paper, just as they are in merry old England. Alternatives to seafood include a chicken breast sandwich, chuck burger and a pork sirloin served with caramelized Asian pears.

One of our Favorites!. First visit was at the bar, where the bartenders were very personable . We had THEE most wonderful Salmon BLT! The chipolte sauce gave a smoky kick , a great combination! Next visit, was in the dining room. I highly recommend any of their fish selections, tender and full of flavor! WE ordered a chardonnay, "Mad Fish" which complemented our dinners. Our waitress was lets say a little odd in her style almost military, but attentive, and knowledgable of the menu .Each visit, toilets backed up, nothing a plunger couldn't handle, ( a STAPLE in Fells Point establishments). The beer is cold, the food great, and an excellent wine selection. If you are in a rush, this may not be the place to go to. But when we go out, we like to take our time anyway, and with an attentive staff the wait is worth it.

A View from Philly. First went here after an orioles game. Had enver been to balt., alway sdriven through on the way to DC. Loved it and have been back to balt. a few times since. The steamed shrimp was amazing, good beer, and of course, crabcakes. I like the feel of the place and it didn't seem out of place for a harbor. I've been with several different types of crowds and everyone has enjoyed it.

Nice place, but...?. I love John Stevens for their sushi bar and their Fells Point feel but for best OUTDOOR dining? If they actually have outdoor dining they are keeping it a secret from all of us who go there occasionally. Maybe it is a locals only outdoor cafe!
