Editorial Review for Blue Moon Cafe – by Thom Lieb
The Scene
The Blue Moon is a no-frills cafe: brick walls, wood ceiling, nine tables. Waiting patrons cram into the corners at peak hours as servers cautiously zigzag between tables.
The Food
Whether you prefer classic dishes or house specialties, the Blue Moon has some of the best breakfasts in town. Everything is made well; portions are generous. Try the Full Moon for fluffy French toast (or pancakes), two eggs and bacon or sausage. Looking for something more exotic? The huevos rancheros piles chorizo, eggs, fresh green salsa and cheddar onto two crisp corn tortillas for a taste of the Southwest. And it is Baltimore, hon, so you should try the Maryland crab Benedict. The traditional English muffins are topped with poached eggs, Hollandaise sauce and a boatload of sweet crab, complemented by crispy hash browns.

Be warned -- the breakfast portions at this place are huge! If you don't want to throw your diet out the window, split it with someone. Everything is good here so you can't go wrong, but the star of the show is the cinnamon rolls. They're freshly made and so good to the bite. And once again, huge. I can't really say if the lines are long because we make it a point to show up on or about 7:30 -- I don't want crowds to intrude on my enjoyment of this place!
Pros: Great food
Cons: Far from where I live (NYC)

When we visit Baltimore, we will be returning to this place for the homemade jam, awesome creamed chipped beef and crispy hash browns, fresh fruit.. we stopped in on a tuesday morning during our stay.. and had to return to try more the next morning.. Sara was an absolute joy as our waitress.. I only wish we had one of these in Pittsburgh. Thanks!
