Editorial Review for Grimaldi's Pizzeria – by Dan McAlvanah
The Scene
The vibe is thoroughly relaxed, perfect for a lazy Sunday evening, ingenious for a first or second date. Checkerboard-print tablecloths drape the tables, pictures of Pavarotti, Sinatra and Brando cover the walls and, nine times out of 10, it's either the voice of Old Blue Eyes or the Italian tenor that emanates from the jukebox. Even if you're not Italian, you feel like family.
The Food
Grimaldi's crust is thin and crisp, thickly redolent of smoke and char; the sauce is savory, full of chunks of fresh tomato and warming flashes of herb; the toppings are wide-ranging, from brilliant bits of fresh sausage to strips of house-roasted red peppers; and the homemade mozzarella, which is dropped in small gobs on the sauce, is the perfect final touch.

On a nice summer day, I can think of few other places I'd rather have lunch. I stroll through Brooklyn Heights with my buddies, get on what is always a long, but fun line for conversation and horsing around, take turns playing frisbee as we wait, and once we get in, its satisfying cold beers all around and of course, the best pizza in Brooklyn. I can't describe it as anything other than just a feeling of being at home. You sit down, packed in with all the other customers around you like you're all family, and you just feel comfortable. Comforted by good company and an ice cold, thick Brooklyn lager in one hand, and a perfectly baked brick oven slice with melting cheese and mouth watering toppings in the other. After, drag your satisfied butt over to the pier to digest over an ice cream cone and a serene view of the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan. Sigh....

I went to the Brooklyn location and got discouraged by the long line. Went to to Hoboken branch and guess what- NO WAIT! We were seated immediately Friday at noon. Ordered the White Pizza with garlic and spinach... heaven. The crust was thin, cheesy and crunchy. The best part was that we didn't have to wait in a long line, yipee!!
Pros: Hoboken Branch has no wait
Cons: Could use more meat for the meatball topping
