The Tavern
by baltimorejoe
Closely knit community inside this bar of regulars. Cheap beer (as of summer of 2009, Natty Boh is $1.75 a can) and good bartenders make this a great choice for the discerning patron!
- Pros: Very Cheap Beer, Funny Bartenders, Jukebox, Golden Tee, Folk
- Cons: No credit cards
Doug at the bar
by rejkavik
I think this crowd is a great example of the irony in Iraq. For all of the people sacrificing their lives, just remember that there happen to be people like 'Doug' still on this Earth. He sits at this tavern and drinks whiskey and believes he owns the world. "Doug, you slave to pop culture, this buds for you and your ugly mother."
- Pros: In the mens restroom
- Cons: In the ladies restroom
It's Bawlmer, Hon.

I love this place. It might be a bit of a dive bar but it has to be the best damn dive bar in baltimore. The support of artists and the art that hang on the walls, the diverse customers that frequent the place daily give this bar a sense of welcoming for all walks of the town. And the drinks are cheap.
Art Center of Bolton Hill?

The Tavern has many layers. From the outside, you see a dimly lit biker bar. You go inside and you see a very diverse band of patrons, the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, and ... an art gallery. The Tavern always has work from local artists hanging on its walls. To be honest, some of the work shouldn't be hanging on ANYONE'S walls, but that's alright because the shows rotate frequently. So, go to the tavern to get cheap pints, cheap pizza, and cheap culture (in a good way).
- Pros: Inexpensive, Atmosphere
- Cons: Crowded Later in PM
The Dirt Church

To start with an anonymous qoute, " Baltimore must be tilted towards the Tavern, 'cause everything loose rolls into here." An inexpensive joint, with hit or miss bartending. Especially nice during the day and early evening hours. Surrounded by the Maryland Art institute, Lyric Theatre, and the Myerhoff Symphony Hall. Food items are limited slightly to "brick on the oven" pizza. Good, geniune crowd. Don't make Mick throw that switch! You'll know if he's there. Dawn provides a sassy, extremely competent ability behind the bar.
- Pros: Great ceiling, Diverse crowd, good drinks
Friendly Find

A copy of Michaelangelo's Sistine Chapel Ceiling and NASCAR racing on the TVs--here is truly an ecclectic tavern close by the University of Baltimore and MICA. Cheap beer and a great draft beer selection drew us in recently. All food served here is grilled out back. Their "honkin big" plate of bar-b-que chicken is a taste treat--and inexpensive too. Comfortable.
- Pros: Beer prices, Food Prices, Juke Box
People of all types mingle over pitchers and pints in this casual, unaffected dive.

The Scene
With the long wooden bar running along a dimly lit room, Mount Royal Tavern is almost your basic watering hole. This neighborhood bar is home to an eclectic crowd, where blue-collar workers, bikers and art students mix with the occasional overly friendly drunk. Art by some of the patrons appears on the walls and ceiling.
The Booze
The impaled blender over the bar gives fair warning: This is strictly a shots and suds kind of place. With that disclaimer, Mount Royal's got a great selection of 10 beers on tap, including Pabst, Guinness, Bass and Yeungling. Still more brands are available in bottles or cans. Whether you're buying by the pint or by the pitcher, it's unbelievably cheap.
