We love breakfast. My wife & I love this place! We go almost every week & it never dissapoints. If you have to wait, it's worth it for sure...but get there early and you can get seated quite quickly. We are addicted to the Cap'n crunch french toast, it is UNBELIEVABLE. We have been everywhere in the B-more area for breakfast and nothing matches this place. Coffee and OJ are both very good, and the service is consistently fast & friendly. But don't stop at the Cap'n crunch french toast although it's hard to order anything else....Omelettes, pancakes, and everything we have tried we have loved. The place has true character, and is a fun atmosphere to enjoy a great breakfast. Go & you will LOVE IT!

Pros: food, atmosphere, & service (what else is there?)

Cons: get there early, and no cons, come late & prepare to wait (but, well worth it)

We drove up to Blue Moon Cafe from DC based on a friend's recommendation, and holy cow was it good. My family was visiting from North Carolina and we're all kind of gravy and biscuit snobs (or whatever the country bumpkin equivalent is...), so believe me when I tell you it did NOT disappoint! We ordered the one (I think it was the G&G?) with the biscuits, eggs, bacon, and gravy all piled up with yummy hash browns on the side - the gravy was so good, the biscuit so fluffy, and the hash browns had that good crispy layer on them. Then there's the cinnamon buns... Words cannot describe them. Our lovely server (I can't remember her name, but she had a blond ponytail and was there around 2:00 on November 8th) was very attentive and nice, and even comped our cinnamon buns because she brought them what seemed like two minutes after we asked for them! She actually thought that was too long to wait, and even over our protests she didn't charge us. Everything was so good, the servers were so nice, it was well worth the drive and wait. I can see why it made TV!!!

This place was on the food network show Diners, drive-ins and dives w/ Guy Fieri. We immediately decided that we had to go. We asked another couple if they'd like to join us, they replied , absolutely ,that they have been going there for about 8 years and we were in for a treat. We arrived saturday morning about 9:30ish to find a litlte local hole in the wall place w/ about 10 or 12 tables. It was full of people and plenty of character, we waited approx. 45 minutes.(good things are worth the wait. So be patient ,you won't be disappointed, especially if you are a big breakfest fans like us) When we were finally seated, Gina came over to the table and introduced herself. She had a great attiutude, was alot of fun, and as we soon realiized was a very attentive, more than competent, confident server, she made us feel right at home. (by the way, loved the wild things Gina) We started off with an awsome cup of robust Bluebird coffee (just the way I like it. No watered down diner coffee here) and a homemade hot caramel sticky bun that was out of this world. we all dug into that one and devoured it in seconds. We then ordered our main course,Pumpkin pancakes,A universal omlet, And 2 italian omlets, w/ suasage and extreme hashbrowns(Yum) as sides. Gina asked why nobody ordered their staple, the Captain crunch french toast. We replied that we thought they might be to sweet. Gina assured us that we would'nt be disappointed, so we ordered a short stack for us all to try. Boy was she right, they were different, just the right amount of crunchy, sweet, deliciousness, totally unexpected. The omlets were cooked just right. Double fluffy eggs, full of meats, veggies and a mix of cheeses that just melted in your mouth. The Pumpkin pancakes were my favorite. A delightfully fluffy, pumpkinny treat that with each bite tasted as if you were tasting them for the first time. Outstanding is an understatement, we enjoyed our visit so much we went home and took naps. Thanks Blue Moon.

Pros: Totally worth the wait

Cons: the wait

Being from the midwest I have missed the small town cafes where the food is homemade and the politics are on the menu! That's the same feeling I got coming in for the first time to the Blue Moon. The food was great, it was the best breakfast burrito I ever had! Gina was awesome, she was there and back with the food in a flash. The coffee was never empty. Definitely worth the drive from Annapolis, can't wait to go back. Pottery Diva from Annapolis

Pros: food, atmosphere, service

Cons: parking

After Diners, Drive Ins and Dives it's a real wait to get a table at the Blue Moon, but still well worth the wait! On a recent visit we were greeted warmly (by name , a rarity these days)by our usual server Gina who always provides us with great service and sparkling repartee as we wait for our food. The kitchen remains consistent in their delivery of a delicious breakfast no matter the time of day we get there or what we order. Kudos to the wait staff who handles the crowds with good humor and courtesy! We love our Blue Moon hon!

Pros: Food and wait staff

Cons: Parking

Relatives visiting from out of town had seen this restaurant on the food channel and suggested we go there for breakfast. I had never heard of it before, despite living in the general Baltimore area. The first thing one is greeted by is a very loose handrailing on one side of the concrete steps leading up to the front door. Warning! Dont try using the left-hand rail for support! The front door is enough to make one turn around and run. It has big chunks of wood stripped off at the bottom. When one gets inside the floor is ancient rough flooring that looks as if it harbors the dirt of several generations. They probably mop it but..... The menu is uninspiring, the wait was forever before the food came and, quite honestly, after I saw the excuse for 'Eggs Benedict' I think I would rather have stuck with a 4th cup of coffee and to hell with the food. Eggs Benedict consisted of muffins with those nasty little rounds of ham on them that one can buy cheap at the store when money is running short right before payday. On top, were fried eggs (fried eggs?...whatever happened to poached eggs?). There was no asparagus on the plate, at all, and the entire mess was topped off with some thick cheese sauce. Perhaps the restaurant should invest in a basic cookbook so that they know what Eggs Benedict actually is. The half plate of hash browns looked edible and so I figuted I would pass on eating more than a couple of mouthfuls of the 'benedict' and stick with those. However, despite their appearance, inside the brown crust seemed to be something besides shredded potatoes. I never did quite figure out what the taste or texture was...some sort of rice thickener? Who knows? Anyway, I primarily moved the 'food' around my plate a bit, pushing into into heaps to make it look as if I had consumed more than I actually had. So $15 per person later, I can tell you that I would never go back there. In fact, I am sorry I ever went the first time.

After hearing that the place is usually packed in the morning, my friends and I decided to go during the re-opening at 11pm. We heard about the place on the Food Network and were dying to try the Cinnamon Rolls and Captain Crunch French Toast. Everyone definitely got it right about the waitresses having an attitude. They could have cared less if we were there. Another group came in after us (they were a little tipsy) and the waitress yelled at them to "get the f*ck out!" -how pleasant to hear during our meal. We still anxiously started to order our French Toast and Captain Crunch.....until our waitress told us they didn't have either. She said they didn't have any Captain Crunch cereal and she DID have cinnamon buns but didn't feel like making them until 4am. She suggested we come back in the morning. We stayed and had a lousy/disappointing meal. Not at ALL like it appears on TV........we'll never go back. Try Papermoon Diner instead, MUCH MUCH better!!

We've traveled down to Baltimore every year for 6 years to watch the Yankees play the Orioles. We always look forward to breakfast at the BMC. The omelets are huge and the Capt. Crunch French Toast is amazing. Yes the wait can be long, but good things come to those who wait. The staff has always been polite and we've always been treated with respect. I can't figure out what some of these other reviewers were talking about. Their coffee is very good and the orange juice is fresh squeezed. The home made jams are so good we always buy a jar to take back to NYC. Look every restaurant can have a bad day, but we have never had one at the BMC. We have recommended this place to lots of friends and they have always reported a wonderful dining experience. Get there early on the weekends to limit your wait time, if you have to wait walk around Fells Point and keep checking back to see where your place in line is. They have always been happy to give me a cup of coffee while I have waited. Don't listen to the bad reviews try it for yourself. My wife and I are NY "Foodies" and know good food and service when we see it. Rock on Blue Moon Cafe.

Pros: Great breakfast.

Cons: Other than a long wait, non that we can think of.

Editor's Review

The food is worth the wait at this bustling Fells Point breakfast spot, serving early birds and night owls.  See the full editorial review.
