Sip & Bite Baltimore - Unappreciative staff with 50% Tip - CRAZY??
by adams7
12/30/2008 - Food was ok and staff was initially courteous during busy time, after hours. We were very understanding, communicating no problem for delay in service...wait staff seemed to be working hard. When presented with bill, wait staff was given $40 on $20 bill, and actually asked if change was needed...100% tip, are you NUTS? This was not a 5 Star restaurant....however, I did have empathy and said only $10 change was needed, which was a 50% tip - she provided me change with No thank you, and Attitude...I will never go back....a simple thank is all that was needed!! In this economy We Have Choices, Choose Another Diner That Is Appreciative Of Your Business!
- Pros: Food
- Cons: Wait Staff

The best crabcakes on Earth, and open all night!
by lovemypuppy
I started coming to this place when I was thirteen, back in 1995, and I have been coming ever since. I've since moved away from Baltimore, having lived in Los Angeles and Raleigh, NC, and I have to say that this is still my favorite greasy spoon. I mean, it's a diner that serves beer, first of all. And the crowning jewel is the crabcake.
I grew up in Baltimore. I grew up eating delicious crabcakes at street fairs, carnivals, slapped off a spatula onto a plate in my grandmother's kitchen, and all over the city. Since leaving B-more, I've ordered crabcakes in various establishments in all levels of restaurants across the nation, which have never equaled the quality of the humble Baltimore crabcake. And Sip & Bite's version is by far and away the best of the bunch.
Lots of crabmeat, tender and unobtrusive breading, a delicate flavor and fork-tender consistency make this crabcake the staple of my visits to the old hometown. The fries are crispy and not too salty, the pickled beets are tangy and just right, and the waitstaff is competent and not annoying.
One can smoke in this restaurant, the bathrooms are small, but seem clean, and it is open all night. I can't think of a bad thing to say about this place -- I am a devout foodie, and I still prefer the grimy-diner ambiance and delicious greasy food of Sip & Bite to pretty much anywhere in the city.
Go, and enjoy!
- Pros: cheap food, crab cakes, 24-hours, offers beer, smoking establishment, consistent service, coat racks.
- Cons: parking during lunch can be difficult.
Excellent Dining at an Excellent Price!

I highly recommend the crab cakes! Service was good, but the check was even better. Great for those on a budget that are looking for a quality meal. You definitely wont go home hungry!! Just be patient late night.. they are a nightcrawler favorite.

I had a really bad experience at Sip and Bite in which both the cook and our server were way beyond the normal range of rude to us. I have no idea why. The food is average, avoid steak. It is open 24 hours but I am now afraid of the staff and will never go back.
- Pros: cheap, decent food, 24 hours
- Cons: , parking
Just be patient...

This isn't Denny's or Waffle House but more like a local version. You'll get served when the food's ready and they get around to taking care of you. If you get there and it's busy, be prepared to hang around waiting for a table to leave and seat yourself. Once you do get your food, it'll be hot, fresh and delicious. It's good, cheap and open 24 hours.
- Pros: Cheap, Non-smoking

Dont touch under the table who knows how many pieces of gum or what is crawling under it.
- Pros: cheap, good food
- Cons: needs a good cleaning, remodel, remodel
The 24-hour breakfasts make this historic Canton diner a well-worn favorite.

The Scene
The Sip & Bite opened in the late 1940s, and not much has changed here since then. The classic diner feel, complete with bar stools and booths, is still intact, and it seems that some of the waitstaff and patrons might have been around at the outset, too. If you're here, it's for decent, quick, cheap food and not for elaborate ambience.
The Food
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served around the clock. Don't expect miracles: The quality is well worth the price, but not exactly gourmet. Omelets, salads and sandwiches are basic but tasty and the crab cakes are pretty good. The wide variety of stunningly inexpensive entrees really steal the show, with chicken Parmagiana or baked ham, complete with sides, ringing in at under $6. For dessert, the lemon meringue pie is a creamy, foamy, two-layered treat on a golden crust.
Love you all!

Good food if your looking for a greasy spoon type setting. Can't beat the value here! My wife, son, and I all ate for about $16. It was kind of small and a bit smokey but worth every penny. We will be back.
- Pros: Inexpensive, Good Food
- Cons: Smokey, Limited Parking, Limited Seating
